Let’s face it: winter’s great, but at some point we’re all ready for a break. For me, there’s no feeling like driving down Wooster Pike on my way home from school with the windows down, letting the warm air hit my face and make my hair look like bed-head. The older I get, the more spring rivals summer as my favorite time of year. Sure, everyone loves summer because it’s hot and we don’t have school. But to me, the timing of spring is just perfect.
Spring is the relief from winter. It’s the calm after the storm. It’s the sunshine after the rain (or, in this case, ice storm). It’s the happy after the sad. In other words, spring is a fresh start for everyone and everything in nature. Flowers that were covered by snow pop up from the ground. Birds return from the south and sing happy songs. Every morning is a second chance.
It’s like the feeling you get after being sick. I mean really sick. When I was in 4th grade, I got mono. I had to miss about a week of school, and even after that I was feverish all the time and wasn’t allowed to play sports. But when I finally got over mono, it was like I had a whole new body- I felt strong, alive, and freshly charged. Spring is the same way for me. Winter may be long and cold and frustrating, but with spring comes warmer weather and another chance.
Try to look at these next few months that way. Whatever’s got you down, don’t worry. Every single sunrise brings a chance to start fresh. With every tree you see blooming, every ice pile you see thaw, and every field you see turn green, remember that God wants you to be fresh and blooming for Him. Use this spring as a chance to be happy and get a fresh start.
