Spring Cleaning

It’s that time of year again. It’s time to clean out your closet, pull out all the dishes that have been growing bacterial cultures under your bed and do some spring cleaning. I find that for the most part I tend to be a fairly tidy guy, but I have a few weak spots, namely my closet and my car. These are the trash pits of my life. Now, my car, as a point of necessity, gets a cleaning pretty much every week (you’d be surprised how quickly 30 empty 2 liter bottles can fill up a Cavalier!) Now my closet, well, let’s just say, you don’t want to go in there. But every year, for one shining day, after I put on my biohazard gear and get out the leaf blower, my closet is clean. And in a way, sometimes my walk with God is just the same. I procrastinate until the last possible moment, long after I should have began working on it, and then try to make up for lost ground in one fell swoop. Do you ever find yourself there? Neglecting God for “better things” and only getting to him when you need him, like only diving into my closet when I can’t find that pair of jeans I really need to wear. God can’t be a once a year event, or once a week, and as a matter of point, not even once a day. Our faith is not a chore to be delayed. Our faith is our way of life. It influences every step we take and every choice we make. My goal is to have a daily, minute by minute, second by second active relationship with my Father. I hope it is yours too. Stop giving God your left over time, give him ALL your time.
